Solidarity for Worker’s Health, Korean NGO, has continued an activity named “Seongsu-dong Project” aiming to improve the working environment of SME’s in Seoul. Unique characters of this activity are 1) focusing micro scale enterprises of local industries such as making shoes and printing, 2) provide training courses to all of workers including self-employed workers and immigrant workers, 3) utilizing strong cooperation with trade union movement. Our organization, Tokyo Occupational Safety and Health Center has joined the activity since 2003 and has exchanged experiences. September 2006 we required to provide workers’ education on OSH from a trade union of a medium scale enterprise of plastic industry. The trade union was established just last July and the union was not majority, for that reason the union has a tense relations with the manager side of the enterprise. Even as this situation, the union people are trying to start OSH activity. Why could we refuse it? The first training course was held in the after noon of 16th September. It was only small introduction of improvement action implemented in Vietnam, Pakistan and Japan. But it was really worth experience for us. The workers kept concentration with serious mind during training. We were impressed by positive attitude of the workers and believe that they start their activity in their small factory.
