The 5th Asia Work Health Forum was held in Tokyo Occupational Safety and Health Center (TOSHC)on 1 February, and participants were 27. As the guest speaker of this forum, we invited 2 medical doctors from Can Tho medical collage, Viet Nam. The name of doctors was Mr. Vo Thanh Hung and Ms. Le Nguyen Chau Ha. This forum was included in APPLE(Asbestos Precautionary Program by Local Empowerment)which is going on in Can Tho City in Viet Nam. As the guest speaker of this forum, we invited 2 medical doctors from Can Tho medical collage, Viet Nam. The name of doctors was Mr. Vo Thanh Hung and Ms. Le Nguyen Chau Ha. This forum was included in APPLE(Asbestos Precautionary Program by Local Empowerment)which is going on in Can Tho City in Viet Nam. In the second year schedule of APPLE, they learned diagnosis of asbestosis in Japan for 17 days.　 Also we welcomed the courtesy visit of Dr. Pham Thi Phuong Nam, the director of Can Tho Occupational Health and Environment Center(ECHO).
Ms. Chieko Matsubara, the participant of Mekong Delta 2007, reported the improvement situation of the fibro cement factory that she visited again this January.
Dr. Vo Thanh Hung and Dr. Le Nguyen Chau Ha presented the results of the 1st year of APPLE. They showed periodic data of air sampling in the fibro cement factory, brake product factories and farmers’ houses, and explained what they had done for asbestos reduction. They developed an action checklist and a photo book for APPLE training, and distributed to workers in the factory. These training tools are easy to understand and workers achieved many improvements by using this.
Dr. Ippei Mouri (the researcher of National Institute of Occupational Health, Japan) reported the new pneumoconiosis radiograph training course for Asian countries doctors named “Asia pneumoâ€.
Mr. Morimitsu Watanabe(Japan Construction Workers Union Tokyo Branch)presented the precautionary activities for asbestos exposure of labor union in construction site.
Dr. Toru Yoshikawa(The Institute for Science of Labour)reported POSITIVE(Participation Oriented Safety Improvements by Trade union Initiative)skill up seminar which was implemented in January 2008. In this seminar, 10 core trainer from 5 Asian countries participated and they visited Japanese factory for checklist exercise.
　After all presentation finished, the group discussion was organized by Dr. Kazutaka Kogi. The title of discussion was 3 good points what we learned from APPLE, and 3 important activities of APPLE that we carry out in 2008. The summary of group discussion by Dr. Kogi was as follows.
1. We could confirm participatory oriented approach in APPLE is effective and useful.
2 Not only focus on asbestos precaution but also focus on low cost and broad range improvements.
3. Evaluate existing risks with accuracy by people’s net work and international cooperation.
